Overview of the Issuing Authority

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) was formed in 1995 and develops, maintains, promotes, and administers a nationally accredited certification and recertification program for pharmacy technicians. It has certified over 525,365 pharmacy technicians since its inception.

Certification Requirements

To be eligible to sit for the CPhT exam, students must complete a PTCB-Recognized Education Program or have equivalent work experience (minimum of 500 hours). They also must reside within the US or its territories, fully disclose all criminal and state board of pharmacy registration or licensure actions, and be in compliance with all applicable PTCB certification policies.
